Kei truck bed size: real dimensions and cargo fit

Kei truck bed size is roughly 76 inches long by 55.5 inches wide for a current standard Carry, while a Super Carry’s gate-up length is about 58 inches. The exact body and gate position decide whether your cargo actually fits.

Kei truck bed size by body

Suzuki’s December 2025 Carry cargo page shows a standard Carry gate-up length of 1,940 mm (76.4 in) and width of 1,410 mm (55.5 in). Super Carry gives 1,480 mm (58.3 in) behind its larger cab. Its 1,975 mm floor length uses a recess under the cab; it is not a 1,975 mm full-width rectangle for a pallet. Daihatsu’s March 2026 Hijet catalog lists 1,940 mm standard and 1,650 mm Jumbo gate-up lengths.

These dimensions are for cited current bodies, not every 1990s import. Three drop gates improve side loading and allow long material with proper support, but open gates change the load and securing plan. The Jumbo guide explains the cab-space tradeoff.

Kei truck dimensions and an F-150 comparison

Japan’s current kei classification limits overall length to 3,400 mm (133.9 in), width to 1,480 mm (58.3 in) and height to 2,000 mm (78.7 in). Those are class ceilings, not the bed’s internal dimensions. Ford’s 2026 F-150 short-bed example describes a 5.5-ft bed and 50.6-in stated bed width. The F-150’s body and wheelhouse geometry are very different; compare a particular cab and bed package before assuming one can hold the other.

A kei truck will not ordinarily fit inside a pickup bed: even its roughly 134-in overall length exceeds the F-150 short bed, and its width, mass, securing and axle loads add further barriers. Use an appropriately rated trailer instead.

Plywood, pallets, ATVs and garage space

A 4×8 sheet is 48×96 in. It cannot lie fully inside a 76-in standard gate-up bed; with the rear gate down it can overhang, if supported and secured under the applicable road rules. A U.S. 48×40-in pallet fits the cited 55.5-in bed width and 58-in Super Carry gate-up length in a simple rectangle, but forklift access, tie-down points and payload remain separate tests. An ATV’s wheelbase and width must be measured; do not infer fit from its model name.

For garage and trailer planning, measure door clear width and height, ramp width, approach breakover, tie-down positions and loaded trailer rating. The payload guide handles the weight side of cargo; compare actual trucks at the kei truck buying hub.

Will the cargo fit the bed?

Enter the cargo’s outer rectangle. Clearance, weight, loading access and safe overhang still need a separate check.

What keeps a bed useful

Undamaged gate hinges, a straight floor and an intact cab wall preserve cargo usability. The larger cab can appeal to a tall driver, while the full-length standard bed better serves long rigid cargo; neither layout has a universal premium.

Search by bed length and cab in the Mirai Auction Portal

Bed dimensions are useful search filters only after body style is known. Mirai customers can view candidates from major Japanese auctions through our Auction Portal and narrow by standard bed, extended cab, dump or other equipment for a U.S. destination. Auction photographs can expose a damaged gate or aftermarket bed that a model catalog will not show. Send the outer cargo dimensions and weight; we can request measured usable floor space on promising lots.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the bed of a kei truck?

A current Suzuki Carry standard bed is listed at 1,940×1,410 mm gate-up, about 76.4×55.5 in. Older models and specialty bodies need their own dimensions.

How does a kei truck bed compare with an F-150?

The kei bed can be relatively wide for its small vehicle, but the overall trucks serve different weight and towing classes. Ford’s 2026 5.5-ft F-150 example is a specific comparison, not every F-150 bed.

Can a 4×8 sheet fit in a kei truck?

Generally no. A standard 76-in bed cannot enclose a 96-in sheet with its gate up. A sheet can overhang with the gate down if properly supported and secured.

Will a 48×40-in pallet fit?

Generally yes. Dimensionally, it can fit the cited Carry and Super Carry rectangular bed areas. Loading access, fork clearance, tie-downs and weight still decide usability.

Can I fit an ATV in the bed?

Yes. Some ATVs fit, but measure outside tire width, length, ramp angle and weight before loading. A model name alone is insufficient.

Can a kei truck fit in a pickup bed?

Generally no. The truck’s overall length and mass exceed what an ordinary pickup bed is designed to carry; use a properly rated trailer.

Is a Jumbo bed as long as a standard bed?

No. Daihatsu’s March 2026 catalog lists 1,650 mm gate-up for Jumbo versus 1,940 mm for standard Hijet.

Do drop sides increase payload?

No. They improve loading access and handling of some long cargo, but certified load and axle limits do not rise.

Will a kei truck fit in a residential garage?

Generally yes. Measure the truck and the door opening; mirrors, roof racks, larger tires and a lift can change clearance.

Does the Super Carry have a 1,975-mm full-width bed?

No. Suzuki’s long floor measurement uses space under the extended cab. Its gate-up open-bed length is 1,480 mm.
